Mission Statement

The Vandergrift Improvement Program (VIP) is a Main Street Program dedicated to the protection, preservation and restoration of the central business corridor and residential areas of Vandergrift using a four-point approach that focuses on organization, economic restructuring, promotion, and design.

Vision Statement

Vandergrift is a unique community with a rich history. It is situated along the Kiskiminetas River in Westmoreland County in Western Pennsylvania. Vandergrift was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and has an unusual opportunity to maintain and enhance its commitment to its “small town” quality of life through preserving its cultural, historical, and natural assets, while encouraging economic growth.

Downtown Vandergrift will develop its existing resources and assets to:

• Enhance the quality of life of its residents by providing a thriving, full-service, pedestrian friendly business district.
  
  
• Promote the character of Vandergrift as a clean, green and safe residential community while maintaining Vandergrift’s “small town” character and charm.
  
  
• Enhance and promote Vandergrift’s unique architectural character as an industrial community designed by the firm of Frederick Law Olmsted.
  
  
• Team with regional organizations for enhanced opportunities for cultural and recreational tourism.
